Winter 2022 Newsletter

A note from Alberta Holstein President Andrew Wildeboer…..

It is again that time of the year when Christmas music fills the air & planning for the next year begins!  Kids’ Christmas concerts, parties, family gatherings…what an exciting time. Where has the year gone!?

The last few months have been very busy, both for those wrapping up harvest, as well as for the breeders making miles to different events.  Mid-August, Brandon hosted the Western Canadian Classic youth show, where we saw team Alberta bring home the coveted Premier Province.  Congratulations to Team Alberta!

The World Dairy Expo and The Royal Winter Fair hosted many Alberta-bred cattle on the colored shavings.  Being two of the largest show stages in the world, it is always exciting to see Alberta’s  “cream” rise to the top!  The Alberta Holstein Association is very proud of these animals and try to support the breeders with a travel grant.  Many fellow breeders had the opportunity to either watch the show in person, or watch from the comfort of their home via live stream.

In October, we were privileged to see a very strong group of cattle come to Red Deer for the Westerner Championship Show.  Cattle from the four western provinces came for both the Jersey and Holstein shows.  In support, AHA was very proud to hand out the Best Bred and Owned award in all the milking classes.  Always a very rewarding prize to win.  Congrats to all exhibitors and breeders.

Holstein Canada is currently in the process of hiring a new CEO.  Please check the website or talk to one of the board members if you have any questions.

Merry Christmas to all of you and your loved ones.  I hope to catch up with many of you this season.
