Alberta 4-H

“After 71 years of our Provincial 4-H Dairy Show, 4-H Alberta has CANCELLED our show due to funding. This was very sad news and disheartening to say the least as this is a very important show for our Dairy 4-H members. The thought of it just being cancelled was not acceptable, so a committee of leaders and parents have decided to embark on the planning/running of this show on their own through volunteers so that our kids can experience this event! With huge support from the Alberta Holstein Association we understand the value of this program and we partnered it with the Alberta Holstein Picnic. The show was held in Rimbey July 17-19. Following the same layout as before the clubs competed in clipping, judging, quiz, showmanship and conformation.”

The first Provincial 4-H Dairy Show was held in Red Deer in 1946. Alberta 4-H Dairy club members who placed 1st or 2nd in any of six conformation classes as well as showmanship classes continue to meet following club achievement days held in June and early July to compete in conformation, showmanship, Judging, Project Bowl, and Show Ring Judging classes. Selections for the 30 individuals who will advance to the Western Canadian Classic are also made at the Provincial Show.
